Cart update to new released version fails.
Posted by Matt Hayes on 25 March 2014 08:57 PM

Issue: The cart fails to update to the latest release through cart admin panel. It fails while retriving the updated package (new release).

Fix: The issue occurs when the cart host server has allow_url_fopen turned off/disabled. As allow_url_fopen is turned off the cart fails to fetch the updated release phar file from API server resulting in update failure.

In order to fix the issue, you will need to contact the cart hosting provider and get allow_url_fopen turned on/enabled. If the hosting provider allows local php value update, then you can update allow_url_fopen through .htaccess/php.ini file. You will need to add below code in your local .htaccess/php.ini file.

allow_url_fopen = On // for php.ini file

php_flag allow_url_fopen On // for .htaccess file

To test if the allow_url_fopen is open, create a php file pinfo.php with below code,

Save the file, upload it on the server and check allow_url_fopen value, it should be on as shown in below screen shot.

Now try to upgrade the cart. It should work fine.
